Finley offers a detailed analysis of 182 horos inscriptions to support his interpretation of the social, economic, and juristic facets of security obligations. The texts of these horoi are reprinted in full and their contents are summarized in four summa statistical tables. In his introductory essay, Paul Millett reexamines some of the conclusions reached by Finley in light of the substantial number of horoi that were found too late to be included in his analysis.
